AFTERCARE
How to Care for Your New Piercing
The Art of Healing: Complete Piercing Aftercare
Proper care is essential for a beautiful result, as healing can take several months. Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing to prevent transferring bacteria. Twice daily—morning and evening—apply a gentle compress for five minutes using a presoaked saline wipe or sterile saline spray on non-woven gauze. Because excess moisture can lead to bacteria, dry the area completely with sterile gauze or a hairdryer on its cold setting.
To ensure a smooth recovery, never remove or rotate your jewelry, as the piercing will begin to close immediately. Avoid using harsh chemicals like alcohol, Bactine, or Neosporin, and refrain from picking at any dried matter attached to the healing tissue. Keep perfumes, makeup, and body creams away from the site, and take care to rinse away soaps and shampoos thoroughly while showering.
Protect your fresh piercing from everyday aggravation by exercising caution when styling your hair, dressing, or engaging in strenuous workouts. We also suggest avoiding swimming in lakes or chlorinated pools while healing. Finally, refrain from sleeping directly on your new piercing; resting your ear in the center opening of a travel pillow is an excellent way to sleep comfortably and safely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Because everyone's anatomy is completely unique, the best way to find your perfect fit is by booking a session with our styling experts. We'll help you find the exact size you need so your new jewelry feels comfortable and looks incredible.
Pain is entirely subjective, but the actual piercing takes less than half a second! While everyone's tolerance is different, many of our clients say it feels like a tiny pinch—often less painful than getting a shot, waxing, or stubbing your toe. We prioritize your comfort and work hard to make the process as quick, smooth, and stress-free as possible.
You will need to clean your piercing regularly until it is completely healed. Depending on your body and where you were pierced, the healing process can take several months. Use a gentle compress and apply a pre-soaked saline wipe, or spray sterile saline onto a piece of non-woven sterile gauze. Hold it gently against your piercing for five minutes.
Because everyone’s body is different, healing times vary widely depending on the person and the exact placement of the piercing. Your piercer will give you a personalized timeline during your appointment so you know exactly when it is safe to swap out your jewelry.
There is no exact rule for this, so we always recommend playing it safe! As a general guideline, standard earlobe piercings might stay open without jewelry after a year or more of continuous wear. Cartilage piercings, however, are much more stubborn and take significantly longer to settle.
